Prestwood Toddler Group is a playgroup for children aged 0-5 which runs weekly during term time in Prestwood Village Hall. We are a local community group run for and by Prestwood parents and have been in existence (in one form or another) for almost three decades.
What do we do?
At our playgroup we have toys and activities for babies and toddlers up to school age including soft play, the home corner, dressing up, toys, cars and, of course, our famous craft table and cafe. Our craft activities and fruit bar are themed seasonally and we never run out of complimentary coffee and tea for the adults! We also throw end of term summer and Christmas parties and are even planning some day trips in the future.
What do we bring to the Prestwood community?
We pride ourselves on bringing families in Prestwood and surrounds together and aim to be a central point of contact for new parents to the area. Our group provides a vital link for many parents who benefit from the experience and company of other local parents, especially important in those early years of child rearing.
We carefully plan our activities around increasing the socialisation and the building of confidence and creativity in the children with a different craft activity each week as well as complimentary milk, squash and a fruit bar for the children. We are attracting new families all the time with new faces each week and many of our attendees and their parent or carer are regulars, both of which speaks volumes about our reputation and high standard of service we provide.
Would you like to volunteer?
We would not exist were it not for our committee of volunteers and we are looking for two additional committee members to help keep the group growing from strength to strength. With toddlers or babies in tow, we appreciate it is not always easy to make a firm commitment but we do work collaboratively on a rota basis to ensure the work is shared out. We are always very grateful for all our local parents and carers and children that invariably pitch in at tidy up time, during the singing and doing the washing up, etc!
Since we relocated to the Village Hall, demand was so high that we started a second Toddler Group on a Friday. Sadly, due to lack of volunteers this Group was cancelled in recent years. It is therefore really important that we find dedicated volunteers to join us to help in keeping the Group going.
Could you donate equipment or offer financial assistance?
We are looking for donations of good quality toys for both babies and toddlers. In particular, we are looking for baby walkers or jumperoo style bouncers, craft materials, cars, dolls prams and a child’s artist easel or two.
Our successes and future plans
We are an active and growing group famous for our Christmas and Summer parties and last year was no exception. At Christmas, we were full to capacity with all 50 tickets sold out. Father Christmas came to give a present to each child and music and dancing was provided by Funky Monkey Music.
We are planning on another great summer party for the children this year and hope to welcome more new faces towards the end of the year as children inevitably graduate on to school making way for others to join the fold.
Where and when do we meet?
We meet from 09:45 to 11:15 every Wednesday morning during school term time at Prestwood Village Hall.
No membership is required to join. For each session, we charge £2 per child over the age of 9 months then 50 pence per additional child. We use this income to pay for the hall hire, replace and maintain toys/equipment and stock the fruit bar and cafe.
