Sweet Charity Celebrates 4th Anniversary

Message from Marilyn Humphreys, Secretary and Director of Sweet Charity

All at Sweet Charity will be celebrating its 4th Anniversary at the end of October. Due to its continued success almost £100k has been given out in grants to local groups during that time.

Some of the grants have been in the form of a pledge, £4k to The First Responders towards their funds for a new 4×4 vehicle and a pledge of £3k to the MS Society towards their new mini bus.

A grant has been given to the Chiltern Air Ambulance for equipment, continued financial support to Prestwood Citizen Advice Bureau and grants to the 5 local schools. These are just a few of the over 40 local groups that they have supported with grants.

This summer they have supported Lighthouse paying for the hire of a marque, “Prestwood forget me not group” visit for the elderly to the river for cream teas, transport costs involved when local schools to attend sports events, kit for football and netball teams, chairs and kindles for The Misbourne School’s new library, funds for first aid equipment and many grants to other organisations.

This has all been made possible due to the continuing hard work of all those unpaid volunteers involved in the running of the Sweet Charity Shop and we would like thank the Prestwood and Gt Missenden community who provide Sweet Charity with donations and those that go into the shop and purchase items too.

The Directors are extremely proud of all of their hardworking volunteers and the significant contribution they have made to the local community, to have reached £100,000 is an outstanding achievement.

If you are a non-profit making group within the Parish of Great Missenden and need funding please either call into the charity shop in Prestwood to collect an application form or request an application form via email sweetcharitycomp@aol.com. Once completed and returned the application will be considered by our grant committee who meet every other month.

We are always looking for more volunteers to join our team application forms came be obtained from the shop or via email sweetcharitycomp@aol.com

  1. £100,000 handed out over the last four years by this Registered Charity specifically for the benefit of our local organisations. What a record !
But what will happen after next summer when the lease on the shop runs out and Sweet Charity will have nowhere to operate from and may well have to close.
Can the scouts, cubs, guides, brownies, footballers, schools, old peoples groups, first responders, Lighthouse and many other beneficiaries really manage in the future without the large sums of money that have been given to them in the past four years?
Just think about it. Prestwood needs this wonderful organisation.

    1. I was not aware of this issue for Sweet Charity. Is this still the case and, if so, is anybody doing anything about it?

      1. I believe that this problem has now been resolved. Sweet Charity will continue to operate from it’s present premises for the next few years thanks to some persistent negotiations by the management team.
