Volunteering

The Committee

Prestwood Village Association is based around a team of up to 14 volunteers that form the committee. The committee is elected at the AGM or co-opted through the year. From within the committee officers are elected, there are three roles; Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. Each can remain in the role for up to three years, and may not be elected to the same role for a further 2 years.

Meeting schedule

The committee meet approximately once every two months for a two hour meeting to discuss business, set goals and pursue and report on initiatives. There are also sub-committees such as Marketing and Web Editors group which also meet from time to time. Sub committees are formed to meet a need of the main committee.

Eligibility

We welcome all ages onto the committee, In order to qualify to join the PVA committee you will need to be a resident, or work in Prestwood and Heath End. We are apolitical, and follow the general belief in helping Prestwood to help itself by keeping Prestwood informed about local news and activities that may affect the local environment. We also help to facilitate interest groups to be formed.

Research

We spend a lot of our time at certain periods of the year looking at documents and consultations from local government, particularly if there is a chance this may affect Prestwood. During periods like this it can get quite busy as we research, interpret and develop versions of the materials that are more Prestwood centric to help Prestwood residents to participate, and therefore influence the future direction of the community. We have been doing this for several years now in association with the development of the Local Plan, DDPD and various other related documents and consultations run by Chiltern District Council.

Other roles outside of the committee

Community Champion

Where there is evidence of something that the community feels strongly about, we will help to promote the role of community champion and help to connect people together that share a common view. Prestwood Village Association committee will do this without prejudice, and without bias to either side of an argument or position. Through activities and support like this a group may be more successful in changing something than an individual. We have had several examples where we have successfully helped groups to make their voice heard.

Web Editors

Perhaps you have an interest in a particular subject area or are looking at a specific area of news and think that the community may be interested in reading about it. We have someone that helps us place news from Thames Valley Police on the website. If you have an interest in a particular area please contact us for more information.

Social Media Editors

Social Media is typically interesting to an age group ranging from 16 to 35. From our research the website as the prime source of information is of interest to 35+. For us to achieve as broad a coverage as possible we would like people to post our news or anything else that is considered to be of broad interest into Social Media feeds from time to time. If this is of interest to you please contact us.

Community Supporters

Prestwood Village Association does not intend to stand still, we are evolving. There will be opportunities throughout the year to help get involved and make a difference for your community. Perhaps it will relate to further Local Plan surveys and helping to discover which parts of the released documentation applies to Prestwood, perhaps it is a marketing role and trying to grow the subscriber base and our reach into the available market.  As these opportunities come up we will seek help from the community. If you would like to indicate that you are willing to volunteer for these are other activities please contact us.
