Update from Chiltern Railways:
As you will be aware, the current situation with Covid-19 transmission and infection levels in England has meant additional national restrictions have been introduced, and official public health guidance has been tightened.
Railway customers should only travel with us for work if essential, or for other legally permitted reasons.
In order to ensure a reliable service that those who need to travel can depend on, protect front line staff, and reduce the burden on the taxpayer during this period of national restrictions, we are introducing a new timetable on Monday 25th January that better matches current levels of demand. You can see details of the new timetable on our website.
This timetable will reduce the number of trains we run to around half of the usual pre-pandemic level, and we are asking customers to please check before they travel for their essential journeys with us. We will be keeping this timetable under constant review, and will make further alterations where necessary to ensure that the service provision matches demand levels and allows customers to socially distance onboard.
Services can and will be ramped up when required, and in particular we will be re-introducing school trains once schools can re-open. The first and last trains of our timetable are protected, as we know that these are relied on by some key workers who would otherwise have no alternate travel options to complete their essential journeys.
Timetable details
From 25th January we will operate the following baseline service;
- 1 train per hour to and from Oxford
- 1 train per hour to and from Birmingham
- 1 train per hour to and from Aylesbury via High Wycombe
- 1 train per hour to and from Aylesbury via Amersham
In addition, our passenger count data shows that demand remains comparatively higher within the Greater London area and as a result we will run additional peak time Met Line services and Inner London stopping services.
This temporary reduction in our timetable ensures a reliable service for those key workers who depend on us for their essential journeys. We look forward to being able to step our service levels back up as soon as the national public health picture allows us to do so, and supporting the economic and social recovery of the communities we are proud to serve.
Please do get in touch with us if you would like to discuss any aspect of our new timetable or the updated messaging we are putting out to customers. Customers can let us know directly if the timetable is not working for them by contacting keyworker@chilternrailways.co.uk.
