The problem is no so much the width, but the lack of maintenance. Too many of the local paths need some care and attention. We have some of the best walking routes in the county but there is a need to improve the surfaces to cope with the increasing usage. And the council promoted cycle paths …..!
During the current climate of social distancing shouldn’t the width of the footpath be quite a bit wider 3 meters for example? This would allow people and dogs to pass safely.
Don’t be greedy. I can’t remember there being a footpath there when I was a lad, many years ago.
