Dear Chequers Folk folk…
When one of The Wick Trimmers’ favourite callers for their barn dances, Geoff Chapman, let on that he also played in a cajon band, we thought ‘Aha, that’s a sound we would love to hear at Chequers Folk!’
And so, Cajon Boogaloo was booked. On Wednesday 15 November, the lovely barn at Cherry Tree Farm will be welcoming the trio playing its Country, Cajon, Old time, Bluegrass, Folk Roots music from both sides of the Atlantic.
Boogaloo? Well, it’s a dance to rock-and-roll music performed with swivelling and shuffling movements of the body originally popular in the 1960s. Cajun was originally sung folk ballads emanating from Louisiana and Canada, sung mostly in French – now Cajun Boogaloo comprises Bob Shadwell on fiddle, Lesley Shadwell on vocal and double bass and Geoff Chapman on vocal and guitar.
The Wick Trimmers will be playing some of our own compositions – including a premiere of a new song based on the county of Bucks in the 1890s with real relevance to us as a band, as a county, a country and globally – plus, of course, the ale from the Marlow Brewery and a wonderful atmosphere.
