Chequers Folk – Wednesday 21 February – Chequers Tree

Dear Chequers Folk folk…

Outside it may be a grey day… the British winter in full swing – but you can look forward to a grade ‘A’ day on Wednesday 21 February at 8pm.

Chequers Folk offers a kind of ‘play day’ – opportunity to enjoy a warm sunny musical atmosphere with a hint of anticipation of spring.

Over the last 6 years we have ‘played a’ huge number of pieces, but this month again there will be some new grade ‘A’ new tunes, arrangements and songs to rain upon you.

As well as the The Wick Trimmers, Gerard’s accordion skills will be on display, David and Peter are with us, and a quartet that could be called the Dolphin Paint Dipper Alliance (you have a go at the anagram!).

We hope you will find your way to The Chequers Tree to overcome the grey by joining us for a colourful evening of folk.

From The Wick Trimmers

For those of you who enjoy dancing too, The Wick Trimmers are playing at a local barn dance open to all at The Oldham Hall, Great Missenden on Sat 24th Feb 7pm (tickets from 01494 862352 or email

Orinoco will be out of hibernation soon….

Litter Pick Weekend – 2nd, 3rd and 4th March

Your help is needed for the next community litter pick!

If you have not yet participated in one of these events, then please consider joining this one.  It’s a great way of getting to meet other like-minded villagers and very satisfying to see a lovely clean village when the task is complete.

Here’s how to join in – call at Jeanette’s house 18 Orchard Lane, off Prestwood High Street, between 10am and 2pm on litter pick days to collect a litter picking tool, refuse sacks and a hi viz top.  Please bring your own gloves.

It’s your choice where to litter pick and when and how much time you give.  Gathered rubbish is deposited at a central collection point which is then cleared by CDC on Monday 5th March.  Please tell your local friends and family about this event – bring them along – and if you have children, spread the news through their schools and clubs. The more volunteers we have, the more litter we can clear from our beautiful village.

This weekend is being run in conjunction with the nationwide Keep Britain Tidy Spring Clean event.

Still not sure?  Give Jeanette a ring on 01494 866460.  Don’t be shy, give Wombling a try!

THANK YOU – Jeanette & Orinoco

Chequers Folk – A special evening at the Chequers Tree

Dear Chequers Folk folk…

Yes, we have checked and, NO! there won’t be any red arrows flying on Chequers Folk night this month or next at The Chequers Tree (ie. no darts match!).

So, we are excited to be welcoming Liz Simcock who is a brilliant singer/songwriter from North London. Her lyrics are wonderfully crafted observations on a wide range of contemporary life and relationships – eg. escaping city life, Cromer pier, knitting and love songs… both Colin and Clive rate her latest album ‘Friday Night Train Home’ as one of the best they’ve ever heard.

Prestwood on the West End stage….

22 Students from Chiltern Academy are very excited to be performing on the West End stage later this month. The invited students,  ages 10-17, will spend the day rehearsing at the Shaftesbury Theatre culminating in a performance that evening.

Two new pieces have been especially commissioned for this incredible opportunity, a contemporary dance number and  a Musical Theatre number highlighting the diverse talent within the Academy.

A huge ‘THANK YOU’ from Jeanette Hedley to all those who participated in last weekend’s litter picking exercise in Prestwood.

“There were 25 volunteers in total including 4 eager children.  Without your help, 30+ sacks of rubbish, 2 old wheelbarrows, discarded wood, metal, netting and glass would still be fouling our beautiful village green spaces, pathways, car parks, roads and play park.   What a difference we can make if we all work together to clean up Prestwood.

“Take a look at the photo to see the quantity of rubbish you managed to pick up in a few hours and I’m sure you’ll agree that the effort was worth it.  Well Done!

“Keep watch on the Prestwood Village Association Website for dates of the next community litter pick weekend.”    Jeanette

Chequers Folk: 20th September 2017 at 8pm

Dear Chequers Folk folk…

The August break has come and gone, so the feel of a new start is in the air…. Schools have gone back and Chequers Folk is here again. So, this term we have some new things that we want to share, and new projects that we’re working on.

This month we’re looking forward to Megan playing fiddle with us again, as well as a few new tunes that have been added to the Wick Trimmers’ repertoire. David and Peter will be duetting together, and they also have been busy recording David’s music – with Peter doing the mastering.  The CD, called Rough Diamonds, will be available on the evening… and I, (Colin), think it’s excellent!
