This was reported to Fix My Street on November 15 by PVA
The flood in Chequers Lane has been reported by PVA to Fix My Street on November 15 but, due to no response, this has been escalated. We will chase again in the New Year. It is disgraceful that this is not fixed. EDITOR’S UPDATE January 18 – Hoorah it’s been done.
Below is a picture just before Christmas and one of the adjoining footpath.

In 2007 I carried out ecological surveys of all allotments in Prestwood and submitted a report with recommendations to the parish council. I then recommended that the pond in Chequers Lane allotments should be restored by digging out accumulated silt, both for its value in preventing just the sort of flooding we are now experiencing, and for the benefit of wildlife, carbon storage and water conservation. Of course nothing was done.
J. Morgan is right, although restoration of the pond would not be a cost-free option. A mechanical digger would be needed, the willow tree would have to be removed, and a low safety fence erected around it. The total cost would probably be about £2K. It is, however, not difficult to get funding for a project of this kind from Chiltern Conservation Board and others, as we did at Prestwood Nature to restore the Sheepwash.
I have also raised this and the response I got was that there was other more pressing work to be done – like resurfacing the road in a cul de sac just along the way.
This flood is on a bend, close to a school, and in this icy weather I would suggest poses a real danger to life.
Months ago I reported it to a parish councillor who said it would be mentioned at the meeting the next day and nothing has been done about it. Apparently someone has filled in the pond in the allotments that the water off the road feeds into, so if the pond is widened and redug the water should drain off the road. Easy solution.
