Our world has changed.
Even before the pandemic, HS2 was a disaster. Now, in the face of multiple emergencies – climate, environment, pandemic and economic – HS2 is a bankrupt idea beyond belief.
We need 100,000 signatures to trigger a debate in Parliament for a new vote on the future of HS2.
Act Now – Please click here to add your signature.
In 2021 we need brave leadership, prepared to make urgent, real-time decisions, to halt and reverse the damage we are doing to our natural world, right now. Not more pledges and targets beyond the term of our immediate government. Time is running out. We need action now.
We don’t need our government – our parliamentary representatives – wedded to decisions of the past that make the emergencies we face, worse. And HS2 is the best example of worst practice when it comes to poorly informed decisions.
So let’s be clear … HS2 damages irreplaceable habitats and wildlife, makes our slim chance of achieving Net Zero by 2050 even worse, wastes colossal sums of taxpayers’ money when we could be investing those tens of billions of £’s into solutions that deliver immediate benefits for our climate, for nature and for us all … and no doubt create a lot more jobs too.
That’s why at the start of this new year, we’ve launched a new petition asking for a new vote in Parliament on the future of HS2.
2021 is the year for action. Let’s see if our government are up to the job.
And please forward this email your friends and contacts and share the petition on social media too.
HS2 will destroy just 58 hectares of ancient woodland (There are over 600,000 hectares of ancient woodland in the the UK). So that’s just 0.01% of the total.
HS2 has strong environmental credentials -it will HELP (not hinder) the UK to reach net zero by 2050.
Chris Packham – you’re asking people to sign a petition based on wildly exaggerated claims. Some of the woodlands you say will be “destroyed or damaged” are actually a mile away from the proposed line. At least one of those is actually right next to the M6 ! You’re losing credibility.
