Practice Plus Group Diagnostics, Buckinghamshire
Formerly known as Mid and South Buckinghamshire NHS Diagnostic Centre (at Cressex, High Wycombe)
The Diagnostic Centre has remained open all the way through lockdown – continuing to see clinically urgent patients. The centre is a Covid Free zone – We don’t see patients with symptoms of coronavirus. X-ray, Ultrasound, MRI and Echocardiography were all operational although seeing fewer patients than normal. Patient numbers are now almost back up to previous levels. Patients are asked to make an appointment for x-rays rather than the previously available walk-in service– so that we can make sure there is enough space in the waiting room for social distancing. Ultrasound, MRI and Echo are by appointment only as they always have been. PPE is used throughout. Clinical staff all wear PPE, our receptionists have a perspex screen so don’t need to wear a facemask.
Door handles and taps and other high contact points are cleaned regularly throughout the day for everyone’s protection. Patients are asked about their current health on arrival in reception to ensure that the centre remains Covid free. As per Government guidelines, and in line with other NHS services, patients are asked to wear a face covering whilst in the building, including during their examination, if you don’t have one it is provided for you. Signage has been placed around the building to help maintain social distancing. Equipment is wiped down after every patient and there is a short gap scheduled between patients to facilitate this.
Our colleagues at Cressex, Practice Plus Group MSK Bucks (formerly known as Buckinghamshire, Musculoskeletal Integrated Care Service (Bucks MusIC)) are also gradually building up their patient numbers whilst observing strict social distancing measures and using PPE. At the height of the pandemic most consultations were by telephone, but now patients are attending for face to face appointments with the team of Physiotherapists and Musculoskeletal clinicians.
