Special General Meeting using Zoom

Prestwood Village Association wishes to call a Special General Meeting at 7:30pm on 10th October 2023 to vote on the following two constitutional changes.

Added to the Objects part of the Constitution: Be proactive and/or lead activities for the benefit of Prestwood Community.

Remove from the Management of Prestwood Village Association: To deem to have resigned any Officer or Committee Member who holds any elective position in local government (Parish, District or County levels) or who is elected to Parliament.

The meeting will be online and held over a Zoom call details are at the end of this message.

We need to have a minimum of 10 subscribers present on the call to enact the changes to the constitution.

Background to these changes and why we need your support

The Prestwood Village Association is something of a misnomer; it was not constituted to get involved and get things done, it was always intended to report to the Community on events and developments that affect Village life.

Increasingly we are asking ourselves, is this enough?  Would we not benefit from the co-ordination of activities from among the many voluntary organisations in the village so that each new initiative drew on past experience or do we have to repeatedly re-invent the wheel?  Would we not benefit from an organisation to better support our Councillors to get the things done that would improve life here?  Doesn’t Prestwood need a stronger voice?

None of this is new, indeed it sadly familiar to many local community activists over many years.  Why doesn’t the PVA take on this role.  A short term obstacle is the PVA Constitution which prohibits such activities.  The two changes to the constitution will broaden the remit of the Prestwood Village Association, and will permit serving councillors at Parish, District or County level, and MP’s to be on the committee.

We have begun to address this topic, but the world of volunteering is not that of business.  It takes much more time and currently we lack the human resource to give the attention required to ensure that what we construct will stand the test of time.  PVA are looking for people who share the vision of a vibrant Village Association to help develop it.

This is the start of a process, it will take a lot to get a successful outcome; time, patience, hard work but most of all human resource.  Anyone who has visited Glasgow in the last 10 years or seen the Commonwealth Games or European Games on TV, will have seen the motto “People make Glasgow”.  It is a motto that we could well aspire to here in Prestwood.
